thanks for visiting the blog of STUDIO6.23 , a.k.a. ben and mindy peterson.

this is our wall for posting favorite pics from recent weddings or kid sessions. but somehow, a bunch of other randomness finds its way here as well.

we got married in 2000. makes it simple math to remember how long we’ve been married. and we’re crazy about our three kids.

i guess that’s why we shoot weddings and kids. it’s what we know — and love!

we first spent time with josh + amy in ann arbor for their engagement session and we knew then that their wedding was going to be FABULOUS!!!! and they did not disappoint! we traveled to sylvania for the wedding, which is a quaint little town in ohio. when we arrived, amy had invited us to be guests at the rehearsal dinner, which was happening at josh’s parents’ home. we had a blast getting to know all their friends and family and enjoyed a very delicious taco bar, as well (a josh favorite!). scouting out spots for pictures is always part of what we do and knowing that amy loved the more natural settings, we were ecstatic when we came across the most awesome greenhouse ever! it was full of colorful hanging plants, white french doors and outside, and adorned with rows of blue pots and more flowers! since it was a really “girly” spot, we only did the girls there, but it was AWESOME!!!! :)

the ceremony was outside at a nearby country club and was overlooking the golf course….. so beautiful!!! their nearby reception site was lined with archways and lights, which also looked incredible! and did these families and friends know how to have a good time! there are fun dances, and then there are josh and amy fun dances!!!. no force could keep us off the dance floor for a few dances ourselves :)

amy had passed out neon necklaces and they lit up all over the room and were sooo FUN! between the dance off with the groom and a phenomenally talented 8 year old, the groom’s brother splitting his pants, the couple literally SMEARING cake all over each other and amy breaking it down like a rockstar…… this wedding was a BLAST!!!! there was not shortage of energy or fun and it’s evident in all of their pictures! thanks for inviting us to be part of your day…… you two are fantabulous!!! much love to josh + amy. here’s a few of our faves…

maternity session with anthony and julie in holland, michigan

when julie contacted me about doing a maternity and newborn session, we were thrilled!! i think that pregnant women are beautiful… (even though most of us honestly don’t feel that way when we are pregnant ourselves!). :) to get some great pictures of beautiful julie pregnant and then to be able to capture their sweet newborn when he or she arrives is just AMAZING!!! (*** mindy sidenote: i think it is so fun that you guys are waiting to be surprised!! i’m always amazed at how much self-control people have when they don’t find out! we found out the sex all 3 times….. we’re not so good at waiting!)

being a parent is one of the greatest joys in the world! for ben and i, having kids not only created a bond that we had not yet experienced, we were also blessed with this indescribable and instantaneous, crazy strong love for someone we had just met. it also pushed us beyond ourselves and into a very unselfish world. needless to say, we are so excited for anthony and julie to become parents and just from what we know about them….. they will be awesome! :)

we met at their cute house in holland and started with some shots of the nursery and then moved to downtown holland. these two were so great and so easy to work with! julie was also a fabulous sport when we came across a huge concrete block that read, “HEAVY BREAKAGE” and i asked her if she wouldn’t mind heisting her cute little booty up there for a shot. and for the record….. it was only for irony. i’m pretty sure she weighs less pregnant than i do regularly! she is the cutest, little hot mama!!! don’t just take my word for it…… check out some of our faves! enjoy your preview……. you’re ADORABLE!! can’t wait to meet your little one!!! :)

did you see the cool outfits that these two showed up in?!!! christina in her bright red sweater with some fabulous red and white vintage shoes to complete the outfit! and dennis in his plaid button down with cool shoes, as well. the location that we started with could not have been more perfect! and we really had no idea that they would match the location…… but they sure did!!! we traveled to some new spots, as well, which is always fun! we just loved hanging out the dennis and christina!

christina and i were chatting it up the whole time and dennis was a trooper considering he was being smothered by all of the social butterflies with him! :) dennis is so sweet, and come to find out, is a fellow artist. we have not seen his work yet, but we can’t wait to check it out! these two were fabulous and can you even stand how beautiful christina’s smile is? INCREDIBLE!!!

we are so excited for their wedding in september…. it is going to be awesome. keep searching for those perfect blue or green shoes for your wedding day, christina! i have faith…. you will find them!!! :) thanks so much for driving so far to do your session and for hanging out with us! you two ROCK!!! ENJOY the show……….

we have been email friends with the fabulous ryan + heidi of mango ink for a while now, but they live in spokane, washington, so we had never met in person!! when we figured out that we’d be out east for some photo sessions and they would be in NYC for a conference, we knew this was our chance to finally meet and hang out! and oh my goodness……. what a BLAST we had with them!!! we met at grand central station and from there had no idea what the day would hold. we wandered around some shops in soho, grabbed coffee and then headed to the most incredible mexican restaurant ever (recommended by a local, of course), called ‘tortilla flats’. when you see the pictures from this cool place below, you’ll see why we loved it!!! authentic, colorful, great food, off the beaten path…. all around fabulousness!!! and to top it off…… on the way there, we randomly came across the movie set of ‘fair game’ and saw sean penn and naomi watts!!! what are the chances?!! so what did i do? i jumped right in with the paparazzi, of course!!! :) i did not have the right lense on, so i only got okay shots, but it was still fun!

after a long and wonderful lunch, we wandered around some more, got some shots of ryan + heidi and just hung out like we’d been friends for YEARS! they are the coolest, sweetest and most incredible people! we knew that we’d love them before we met them….. but who knew we’d be like besties before we even got to lunch! :) check out their fabulous custom invitations and more at: www.mangoink.com. they have everything from uber awesome birthday invites to save the date cards for engaged couples to whatever else you can think of!! we do our christmas cards through them every year and have been thrilled with their sturdy, high quality, cool cards. :)

now that we have officially met them and hung out, we have a few more trips planned! we will also be heading out to spokane, washington sometime this year to do some family sessions. if anyone out there is interested…. let us know!! :) ryan + heidi….. you ROCK! so thankful for our new friendship and can’t WAIT to see you again!!! next meeting place…… destination europe! :) here’s some pics from our adventures in new york city, baby!!!! enjoy……..

what an incredible wedding day!!! we have loved david and blakeley since the first time we got together and being with them on their wedding day was so just awesome! i must say that the most challenging part was figuring out where to put 24 bridal party members for pictures!!! yes, i said 24… that was not a typo, but that count does include the bride and groom. :) blakeley comes from a family of 8 kids and that alone could be a whole blog post of it’s own! what a fabulous family and they do know how to laugh together and have fun! you should have seen blakeley’s parents tearing up the dance floor!!! and then there is the fact that blakeley and david have so many good friends!!! you guys are SO popular! :) we feel so honored when we go to a wedding as a vendor, but become part of the family and friends in the process. that is exactly how we felt…. like one of the gang. blakeley even matched the bridesmaid dresses, her HOT shoes and other details to my pink hair!!! i certainly blended in! both families and all of their MILLIONS of friends were so wonderful and we truly felt like we were part of their family!

david and blakeley saw each other for the first time before the ceremony and it was so sweet… blakeley’s tears were flowing. after a few private moments together, we headed down the street to an awesome barn that we had spotted the day before! we had already asked the owners if we could take pictures with the bridal party there and they were so kind and generous to let us!!! the barn was the perfect setting for the day to take all of our pictures at! thanks so much to the owners for allowing us to take over their farm. :)

the ceremony was extra special and emotional since blakeley’s father, pastor larry performed the ceremony! i had to wipe away tears while trying to keep shooting! talk about a challenging day on the job. :) they had their reception at richland bible church (where blakeley’s dad is the pastor). the church looked A-MAZ-ING!! david and blakeley, you are such genuine and kind people, who still know how to have lots of fun! you love the Lord and your marriage will reflect that as you serve each other unselfishly. we were so honored to be part of your day and blessed to call you friends! and now…. enjoy some of our faves!!!

If you could see me now you would notice that my jaw has just hit the floor!! And for the first time it’s not because of your photography (although it is fantastic, as always!)….It’s for the fact that they had 24 people in their bridal party!!! WOW….that’s all I can say….WOW!!

Gorgeous pics as always……although the bride and groom were beautiful so I’m sure that makes your job just a little easier :)
